Macroscopic Traffic Modeling with PTV Visum to Be Included in VPL Curriculum

Back in April, our technical staff member participated in a training course from PTV Group. The goal is to build up specialized knowledge and methodological expertise over the long term. On the one hand, students will gain practical insights into modern planning and analysis tools used in transportation planning; on the other hand, the software is also expected to play a role in future research.
In the coming weeks, we will be designing a new course for the winter semester. Students will learn the fundamentals of macroscopic traffic modeling and apply traffic models to issues in spatial and transportation planning.
Traffic models play a central role in evaluating infrastructure measures, analyzing traffic flows, and estimating future developments. PTV Visum is one of the leading international tools for strategic traffic planning and traffic demand forecasting.
For students of urban planning, this enables them to analyze planning decisions based on data and to understand the effects of measures on transportation networks and mobility behavior—skills that are becoming increasingly important in practice, administration, and research.
We look forward to incorporating this subject into our teaching in the future
