How can urban mobility become more efficient, liveable and sustainable? This question was at the heart of the recent meeting of the ERTRAC Working Group Urban Mobility.

Our chair Prof. Dr. Sascha von Behren and Jacqueline Radzyk of the Mobility and Transport group VPL at took part in the working group meeting, chaired by Ivo Cré and Karen Vancluysen from POLIS network. Together with experts from research, industry and public authorities, the group discussed priorities for future European research and innovation in urban mobility.

One topic received particular attention: parking in urban areas. Parking is far more than a matter of available spaces or business models. It affects land use, accessibility, traffic volumes, public space and the quality of life in our cities. Rethinking parking can therefore be an important lever for creating people-centred, resilient and climate-friendly urban environments.

We are pleased to contribute scientific perspectives from TU Dortmund to this European dialogue and look forward to the next steps.
